  13. For some documents the change is easy; just figure out which
  14. part of \documentstyle[this,that.theother]{whatever}
  15. is a package, and which a global option, and convert
  16. to
  17. \documentclass[that]{whatever}
  18. \usepackage{this,theother}

  20. I guess I find that easy most of the time, because I don't get
  21. involved in complex LaTeX documents.

  23. Others tell me that "just about everything breaks."  I can see
  24. no benefit in telling such people to go "cold turkey" into
  25. LaTeX2e.  They need latex209 as a transition, and it is easy enough
  26. to offer it to anyone who has the extra disk space for the two
  27. paths.

  50. North American academic institutions have been taken over by MBA 
  51. bean-counters and genuine or wannabe industry CEOs.  Just when 
  52. American industry is beginning to doubt the wisdom of autocratic 
  53. pyramidal dictatorship, most American Universities have adopted 
  54. that style of management, which is nice for refugees from defense 
  55. industry boardrooms, but rather sickening for the rest of us.
